Printing: Antibacterial Paper Stock

In our previous post we talked about new plastic film laminates that are manufactured and embedded with antibacterial properties. This antibacterial technology is also being applied to paper stocks to help limit the spread of harmful bacteria.

What is Antibacterial Paper Stock?

Paper manufacturer James Cropper has introduced an antibacterial paper branded as PaperGard™. Like antibacterial laminate, it embeds silver ions into the paper during the manufacturing process that prevents microbes from growing or replicating on the surface of the paper. And, because the ions are embedded in the manufacturing process, they can’t be rubbed-off; the paper retains its antibacterial properties for the duration of its lifetime.

Is Antibacterial Paper Stock Available in Different Weights and Finishes?

Yes, PaperGard™-treated papers are available in smooth, uncoated sheets and card stocks as well as textured felt and other varieties. In essence, you can use antibacterial paper for all of your standard print items such as envelopes, brochures, menus, book covers, packaging, stationery, business cards, invitations, shopping bags, greeting cards, etc. In addition, all popular finishing techniques (hot foil stamping, embossing, die-cutting, etc.) can be applied.

Is Antibacterial Paper Stock Available Eco-Friendly?

Yes, PaperGard™-treated papers are non-toxic and recyclable.
